"The smart cat doesn't let on that he is." - H.G. Frommer

Poor Bos used to be an inside cat, but once she and her owners moved, she was placed in the garage, to be let out during the day. The outside was an exciting new world for her to discover, but she craves the attention she once had as an inside cat. She's jealous of Luce and wants to claim the spot of Top Cat.

Fat dumb and happy are three words to describe Luce in a nutshell. He is kept inside because his owners figure he's probably too dumb to let out and would most likely get stuck in a bush or something. Every once in a while he does sneak out, but he never gets too far before being caught. Luce is very large and intimidating but completely harmless. He's highly curious and secretly a little smug about the attention he receives.

These characters are based on my two cats Lucifer and Bosley; they really write this stuff themselves, as most cats do. Bos is really a much happier and nicer cat than the way that I portray her, and Lucifer is definitely just as stupid.

This story is about frustration, basically. Luce is the more easy-going cat. He doesn't put all his eggs in one basket, and sort of goes where his curiosity takes him. Bos is more tenacious and goal-driven, but she is also fueled by jealousy and anger, and in the end it does her no good. Sometimes, no matter how badly you want something, it just doesn't work out. Sometimes you find yourself in a situation where someone else gets what you want when you feel they don't deserve it. This is the case with Bos.

In general I've always been very influenced by the way Disney's animals were always so realistic in terms of anatomy. Disney was my first influence, as with many young animators, as well as Miyazaki. Over the years I've become very interested looser animation, illustration, and the styles of such cartoonists as Dr. Suess, John K, and Stephen Hillenburg. My own cartoon style is somewhat all over the place, but I like to integrate my favorite things from my favorite artists.

The dumbs.
